The Maritime Strategies and Transitions Chair
A chair project led by Deep Blue Foundation, with its own management and academic structure, and comprising four Study Centres.
About us
An academic think tank that brings together different disciplines and generations to analyse and make maritime issues more accessible to the public.
Purpose
Geopolitical, diplomatic, economic, military and environmental: maritime issues are rarely understood in isolation. Deep Blue Foundation was born out of the conviction that they must be considered together, across disciplines and generations.
Originally comprising students and academic researchers, the association has expanded to include a diverse community of stakeholders — practitioners, experts and public officials — who are committed to making major maritime issues more accessible to the public and bringing them into the public debate.
It is committed to passing on knowledge: giving the younger generations the means to understand these issues, and the opportunity to take ownership of them.
To bring together students, researchers, practitioners and decision-makers to discuss the same issues, with a view to combining their perspectives rather than simply setting them side by side.
Publish reports and opinion pieces, including two reports submitted to the National Commission for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Conseil d’État) on the role of the sea in public policy and education.
Lectures, symposia and debates, both at the Sorbonne and at international events such as the United Nations Ocean Conference.
To give a voice to the younger generations and make these issues accessible through public speaking competitions, interviews and podcasts.
