Entitled ‘Les Jeunes pour la Mer – Youth for the Sea’, this initiative aims to forge lasting links between young people committed to the oceans and experienced figures from the maritime world. The aim is to support, inspire and nurture a new generation of maritime leaders by bringing together the perspectives of future seafarers, lawyers, engineers, scientists, architects and historians with those of members of the ‘Académie de marine’.

As part of this initiative, several academics have signed up to become mentors to support young talents who have been identified for their motivation and their commitment to taking action to protect the ocean.

This programme is fully in line with the mission of Deep Blue, which, since its inception, has been working to strengthen intergenerational engagement with the maritime world by bringing together students from prestigious higher education institutions and universities to work on practical projects that are meaningful and promote the passing on of knowledge.

TheAcadémie de marine, moreover, wishes to give this initiative a European dimension by inviting Europe’s six naval academies to come together to make ‘Youth for the Sea’ a continent-wide programme.

Three key principles underpin this approach:

– The transfer of knowledge: enabling young people to benefit from the experience of those who have dedicated their lives to maritime issues
.– Fostering a maritime mindset: raising awareness of ocean-related issues and making the sea a cultural and strategic priority.
– Promoting gender diversity: encouraging a variety of backgrounds and profiles in maritime careers.

Deep Blue is delighted to be contributing to this collective, forward-looking initiative, and extends its warmest thanks to theAcadémie de marine for its trust and commitment.
