Stéphane Bern at the Sorbonne
On Wednesday 28 January, the Richelieu lecture theatre at the Sorbonne hosted a special lecture by Stéphane Bern, organised by the Deep Blue Foundation.
This event took place in a symbolic setting. The Sorbonne is one of the leading centres of French academic learning, a place where history is studied, debated and passed on. For many years now, Stéphane Bern has also been helping to bring this heritage to life and share it with a wide audience.
In the run-up to the conference, a tour of the Sainte-Ursule Chapel at the Sorbonne — which is currently undergoing restoration — and of the archives of the Inter-University Library, some of which date back to the 11th century, served to illustrate the site’s rich history.
This initiative also sent a powerful message: young people today are actively committed to preserving and promoting our heritage. The restoration and forthcoming reopening of the chapel are testament to this desire to foster dialogue between the university and the city and to breathe new life into places steeped in history.
Organising such an event within these walls serves as a reminder of something obvious: heritage sites thrive only through the attention paid to them, through the initiatives that safeguard them, and through the passing on of the knowledge they hold.
Deep Blue Foundation would like to extend its warmest thanks to Stéphane Bern for his commitment and generosity, as well as to the Association pour le Rayonnement de la Chapelle de la Sorbonne (Marie Guyot), the UEPR (Lola Lepresle), the teams at Sciences et Cultures, Professor Florian Michel and theUniversité Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne for their contribution to organising this event.
Thank you also to everyone who took part in this event, which was all about history and passing on our heritage.
